Maelstrom

This image was one of my first when I returned to art after a 6 year break in 2015. I used a very simple 3D blockout in Max to get the perspective on the ships and also built the sea and whirlpool in 3D. Then I did a mix of photobash and painting for the sea and certain ship details and then painted over the top to give it a more classical look. I referenced colours from classical sea battle paintings.
